Hatha
Focus is a strong vinyasa flow class, which weekly focuses on
a
specific theme related to the practice and experience of Hatha
Yoga. Each week will emphasize either a series of related postures,
a particular body part, or a philosophical yogic theory.
Each
week I will pick a different theme such as hip opening, arm
balancing, back bending, fore arm stands, the eight limbs of
yoga, shoulder opening, and more. The class will be structured
to slowly warm our bodies before we move into the strong flow
of the sun salutations in order to build heat and energy throughout
the body. After building internal heat (tapas), we will then
move to explore the focus of the week.
While
strong vinyasa practice can feel great and satisfying, my hope
is that a central focus will aid us in deepening our understanding
of different aspects of the yogic practice allowing us to open
our bodies, move with grace, and enjoy the beauty of yoga. As
Rumi once wrote, "Let the beauty we love be what we do."
If
you have any suggestions regarding body areas to focus on, please
leave a note with the front desk or email me at burkmanyoga@gmail.com.
