Yoga Movement/Special Workshops

We provide a variety of yoga classes, all of which help strengthen and vitalize attachment to stressful day-to-day events and aid participants in developing a sense of calm, composure and a feeling of refreshment.

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old system of integrating the body, mind and spirit. It involves eight stages or "limbs" which inlcude asana (physical postures), Dhyama Yoga (meditation), Pranayama (breath control), Dharana (concentration), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal) and other aspects of "right living."

A Hatha Yoga practice helps develop concentration, muscle tone, flexibility, strength and balance, as well as helping reduce the emotional effects of stress. A consistent yoga practice will also help the body's own healing processes to operate more effectively.

Yoga classes range from gentle stretching and relaxation to vigorous strength-building and aerobic exercises.

Other Movement Activities (Sometimes Offered)

Guided Meditation: A verbally directed relaxation session.

Introduction to Meditation: Step-by-step instruction is given for beginners on everything from how to be comfortable and relaxed to specific techniques.

Qi Gong: A 3,000-year-old Chinese practice created specifically to promote health and longevity. Combining movement, breath and mental focus, the practitioner cultivates healing energy, power, and a centered, grounded calmness while reversing or forestalling many of the degenerative processes typically associated with aging.

Tai Chi: An ancient Chinese series of movements conductive to both mental and physical well-being. Promotes health, balance, coordination and synchronization. A meditation in motion, it can also be used for self-defense.
